Did the first football match in the area take place at Inchtuthil?

Work started in September 2021 to create an all-weather 3G pitch at Davie Park, Rattray, Perth and Kinross.  For the uninitiated, 3G stands for Third Generation synthetic surface consisting of 3 elements - synthetic turf, sand infill and rubber infill.

In Blairgowrie and Rattray it is hoped that the beautiful game will contribute to improvements in the physical and mental wellbeing of members of the community.

The history of the game of football goes back over centuries, probably to the Romans.  However, in Blairgowrie and Rattray, although it had been played over the decades, its popularity grew when in 1946 the local team (known as The Blair and The Berrypickers) joined the Perthshire Junior League.  The team enjoyed great success and had a huge following.  In the 1950s and 1960s record crowds of supporters would gather at Davie Park.

The town is proud of those Blairgowrie and Rattray footballers who have gone on to play for senior clubs.

In 2009 a book "Local Heroes: A History of Senior and Junior Football in Blairgowrie and Rattray" was written by Martin Mackay.

In 2011 the Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club was formed.  Its stated aims are 'to advance football for all ages and abilities and provide a safe and fun environment for all to take part'.
